Riding Profile:
This riding has existed since the 1914 election. This riding is in
southwest Manitoba and has Lake Manitoba as its eastern and northern boundaries.
The riding includes Gladstone, Neepawa, McCreary, Ste Rose, Ste Rose du Lac and
Westbourne. Neepawa is called the World Lily Capital.
The population in 1996 was 19,038. In 1999, there were significant German (8%)
and francophone (4%) populations. There was a 26 per cent Aboriginal population.
Over 25 per cent of the population had less than a Grade 9 education -- one of
the highest in the province.
The average family income in 1999 was $36,883 with an unemployment rate of 7.60
per cent.
In 1999, agriculture was the main industry (29%) followed by health and social
services (11%).
