OCLS  provides library services to Distance Education students who are unable to come on campus and utilize the university's library.   Included among these students are people enrolled in Inter-Universities Services, Campus Manitoba, and Brandon University Extension students. These students are:
  •  provided with access to items held in our library.

  • provided with access to a number of electronic resources that can be accessed from home.  These resources include access to:
    • over 100 databases
    • articles held in approximately 19,000 electronic journals (in full-text databases and e-journals)
    • approximately 200 dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases, thesauri, biographical dictionaries, language dictionaries, and subject guides.
    • access to a citation management system known as Refworks

  • provided with assistance in finding information and doing research.

  • able to contact the library in order to learn more about requesting articles not held in our library via Inter-Library Loans

  • able to request Reciprocal Borrowing Cards if they live near another university in Canada, and want to borrow books from their library.

Any student with Internet Access (be it at home or via our Community Access Points) are required to do their own research, and submit a request for materials they would like to obtain.  Materials include books, journal articles, ERIC documents, and government documents.    They can also have immediate access to articles held in any full-text databases they are authorized to use .

For students who do not have Internet access, we will provide you with subject searches and send out information related to the topic you are researching.

If you are a professor, community coordinator or student looking for more detailed information about our service, please see our online guide.

If you need to contact OCLS for additional information please contact the OCLS library assitant Randy Patton at (204)-727-9641.
