Getting Help With Your Research | |
Library Tutorials | People who can Help | Library Instruction Learning to do Research using Library Tutorials If you need additional help with your research, try using one of our library tutorials designed for distance educations students (but which are also useful for students doing research from home.) They can assist you in learning how to search for materials you need using library catalogs and databases. Some also provide additional assistance with how to write and cite papers. Any student is welcome to use the following tutorials. Introduction to Research Tutorials
Database Tutorials Databases are used to find information in a particular field of study. All of the following cite journal articles in a wide range of fields of study. Some also cite information found in books (MLA or America: History and Life), Grey Literature (ERIC), professional publications and business information (Business Source Premier). If the database contains full-text articles - of if it cites an article held in one of our e-journals, you can view them online from home.
People who can Help 1. Library Staff If you need help beginning or completing
research on a topic, please contact the Extension Librarian, Carmen Kazakoff-Lane.
You can reach her during business hours at (204)-728-0439 or at kazakoff@brandonu.ca. If you wish
to talk with someone about requesting library materials, please contact our OCLS Library Assistant, Randy Patton,
who is just a phone call, fax, or e-mail away! You can reach him during regular business
hours at (204)-727-9641. The fax number is (204)-726-1072. You can
also request
materials online any time of the day or night but be sure to include
all relevant information in order that we can locate it for you quickly! 2. Campus Manitoba Coordinators If you are a Campus Manitoba student and are having
problems finding or requesting items, we suggest you contact your Campus
Manitoba Co-ordinator for help. They are familiar with the operation of Alfie, several
databases, and are responsible for on-site instruction. For contact information please
look at our Community
Access Points resource page. The library is occasionally asked to provide library
instruction either online or onsite, dependant upon the type of distance education course
being offered. You will be notified by your professor of any library instruction
courses, during which time we will teach you how to do research. Faculty wishing to arrange for library instruction
