Annapurna Trekker
( 16 April 2003 - 22 May 2003 )

Having previously trekked in the Solo Khumbu region to Everest Base Camp with my brother Barry and his wife Joanne, this was my second trip to Nepal.  The Greyhound bus departed from Brandon on the evening of 16 April, a morning Air Canada flight to Chicago, an afternoon Japan Airlines to Bangkok (via Narita), and a few days later was on Royal Nepal Airlines to Kathmandu.

Nepal is a small country bordered by both India and Tibet, stretching along the southern slopes of the Himalayan Mountain.  The Annapurna Circuit is a 200km trekking loop in the central portion of Nepal.

The Thamel district of Kathmandu has narrow streets lined with 4-5 storey buildings.  Several dozen small guest houses and restaurants cater to the foreign tourist travelling on a budget.  Other small shops attempt to entice the souvenir shopper.

Hotel Puskar, my home (150rp single with bathroom) away from home, has a concourse with several small shops:  travel agent, shipping expediter, money changer, beauty salon, and restaurant.
