RETURN TO CLASS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Many students have questions about how lost time will be addressed when classes resume, how tuition refund and voluntary withdrawal
dates will be affected, and how their course work will be affected. It is the Administration’s hope to clear up
some of these uncertainties with the following questions and answers.
- Q. Will the current term be extended?
A. The term has not been extended beyond its original end date.
- Q. How will the lost class time be made up?
A. Faculty members may work with students to determine adjustments to
the differing courses and programs of study. In some cases this may require changes to course outlines around
due dates and test dates.
- Q. Will there be make-up classes?
A. This will be entirely at the discretion of the professors. The University will make its classroom
facilities available in non-traditional time slots to professors to accommodate this should it be helpful.
- Q. There were tests / assignment due dates scheduled in my classes during the strike. How will those be dealt with?
A. Professors may reschedule the tests and / or re-weight assignments now that classes have resumed. No academic penalty will arise from job action.
- Q. How will final exams be affected?
A. Currently, final examination dates remain unchanged.
- Q. How are voluntary withdrawal dates being affected by the strike?
A. At this time, the final date for Voluntary Withdrawal has been moved to November 14, 2008.
- Q. How are Tuition Refund dates being affected – what are the current deadlines for those?
A. The deadline for a 50% tuition refund has been extended to October 24.
- Q. Can students expect any type of refund for lost class time?
A. The University does not anticipate granting tuition refunds except as outlined above. Our intention is to honour our commitments to students in such a way that they receive the full value of the tuition and fees they have paid.
- Q. How will students anticipating a Fall graduation be affected by the strike?
A. Students scheduled to graduate with the fall on-paper convocation will not be affected, assuming that they have met all of their requirements for graduation.
