What Does the Biology Department at Brandon University Offer?

At present , we offer  3-Year, 4-Year and 4-Year Honours B.Sc. programs in both Botany (the study of plants) and Zoology (the study of animals). In the future, these programs will be combined into a single Biology degree program.

A 3-year or 4-year degree in an area of biology meets the academic requirements for admission into the University of Manitoba School of Medicine and other professional programs such as Dentistry, Optometry or Veterinary Medicine

If you are considering a career in the biological sciences we suggest that you take the 4-Year program. If you plan to enter a professional school such as Dentistry, Medicine, Optometry or Veterinary Medicine we suggest that you consult the advisor for the program you want to pursue. The advisors can be found in section 15 of the General Calendar.

In the Botany program, in cooperation with Minot State University, Bottineau Campus, North Dakota, Brandon University offers 4-Year Major or 4-Year Honours Major programs in Urban Forestry or Horticulture with a major in Greenhouse Technology, Landscape Design, Floral Design, or Turf Management. Students entering the Zoology program must have completed Senior 4 English, Mathematics and Chemistry or their equivalents. Applications for exemption from these requirements may be made to the Biology Department.

To be eligible for a Major or Minor in Botany, students are required to have high school standing in English 40S, Biology 40S and at least one of Chemistry 40S, Physics 40S or Mathematics 40S, or their equivalents. These requirements may be waived under special circumstances.
