Currently there are twelve faculty members in four departments in the Faculty of Science who hold NSERC grants. NSERC also provides funding for the Undergraduate Student Research Awards (URSA) that allow promising students to gain research experience during the summer with one of the NSERC researchers. USRAs are $4,500 from NSERC plus at least an additional 25% funded by Brandon University.

Dr. Alison Marshall, Associate Professor in the Department of Religion, received a SSHRC Standard Research Grant (SRG) of $62,348 over three years for her research program entitled “Understanding the Chinese presence through foodways in rural Manitoba and Saskatchewan.” Click here to learn more about Dr. Marshall's research.

In 2005, principal investigator, Dr. Helen Armstrong, received $1 Million from SSHRC's Community-University Research Alliances (CURA) program for a five year research project examining the impact of Aboriginal cultural instruction on learning, school attendance, and retention of Aboriginal students.
