The Gender and Women's Studies Program invites students to engage in discussions about women and gender. Students are  encouraged to expose, expand, challenge, and rewrite accepted perceptions of women and gender as constructed historically, culturally, and globally; to explore how traditional and contemporary perceptions of gender influence current generations of women and men; to think critically and to imagine alternative modes of being unrestricted by received gender identification. Through theoretical and practical investigation, students will develop the critical knowledge and skills conducive to a fuller understanding of women and gender issues.

Students may choose from a diverse selection of cross-listed courses offered by faculty members in Arts, Science, and the School of Health Studies. These courses probe contemporary and historical feminist and gender issues from a number of interdisciplinary and multicultural perspectives. Women's Studies courses employ various theoretical approaches including post-modernist feminist theories, queer theory, women of colour theories, women and globalisation theories, post-structuralist gender theory, and post-feminist theories.

Graduates with a minor in this program typically go on to work in fields such as advocacy, government, health services, law, media, politics, public administration, and social work.
